Tricks to Help With Tooth Sensitivity

Posted .

If you have tooth sensitivity, you’re likely looking for ways to find relief and comfort. You’re not alone. Many people are inconvenienced by the discomfort experienced when eating and drinking hot and cold foods and drinks and even just taking a deep breath outside in the chilly weather. Our skilled dentists, Dr. Ron Stewart and Dr. Vonda Hester, would be happy to help you find relief from tooth sensitivity by sharing some handy tricks. Those tricks are:

-Change the brand of toothpaste you use: Sometimes whitening toothpaste and extremely abrasive toothpaste can wear away the tooth enamel, irritate the gums and even make the gums recede from the teeth. It’s best to stop using those pastes and change to a desensitizing or fluoride toothpaste.

-Don’t be too tough on the teeth: Brushing too hard or using a hard-bristled toothbrush can also wear the tooth enamel away and bother the gums. It’s best to stop brushing too hard and use a soft-bristled toothbrush.

-Use fluoride: Fluoride can help you strengthen your tooth enamel, which can close the pathways that lead to the tooth nerves. So, make sure to use fluoride toothpaste, use fluoride mouthwash, drink fluoridated water and get a professional fluoride treatment regularly.
