Dental Crowns 101

Posted .

Dental crowns are commonly used in dentistry for many different reasons and needs. Needing a dental crown is common, yet many people are unsure of what they are and how they work. That is why our team here at Stewart Family Dentistry in Lithonia, Georgia, is happy to give you some basic information about dental crowns and how they can restore your smile.

Did you know dental crowns are custom-made to cover a tooth to restore it to proper health and size? Well, it’s true! There are many reasons a crown might be needed to protect a tooth. Some reasons include cavities that become too large to fill, cracked or chipped teeth, a tooth that has become weak and any other reason your dentist may need to place a crown over a tooth or implant to protect it.

Dental crowns are hard to be seen by others and blended to match your existing teeth, so only your dentist would know it was there. Thankfully, your dental crown is not subject to tooth decay, however, your surrounding teeth are, so brushing and flossing daily are still needed to take proper care of your crown and oral health.

If you have questions or would like to know if a dental crown is a great option for your smile, please call us today at 770-872-0662 to set up an appointment with Dr. Ron Stewart. Our amazing and friendly staff is happy to assist your smile in any way we can.
